10 GIFs From Paula Abdul's Wonderful Breast Cancer Awareness Music Video
Oct 15th, 2014
The visuals are backed by a strange but informative 80s-style club jam
Singer, dancer, and American Idol judge Paula Abdul teamed with the Avon Foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer in a strangely fun new music video titled "Check Yourself." The video, released earlier this month, is a truly noble endeavor. "My sister Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000," Abdul said. "As a breast cancer survivor and champion for the cause, she inspires me every day. My hope is that this new video will inspire women and men to take charge of their own breast health through screening, detection, and treatment."
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, and Abdul's video uses a pumping club beat and 80s style-choreography to convey potentially life saving information in an upbeat and catchy way. Seriously, the song is an earworm.
All that said, the video is ridiculous (though if that makes people more likely to remember the advice in it, that's excellent too). Here are the GIFs you need to see. (h/t Jezebel for the video).
We're setting the scene. It's just gonna get stranger from here.
Paula Abdul is being felt-up by an overhead projector.
We bet you never thought you could dance to the lyric "Meds and things you’ve been exposed to also could be factors.” And yet, here we are.
Paula shows us how it's done.
“Keep and looking for those lumps and bumps / Girl, it’s just that easy,” Abdul sings, checking for cancer with some sass.
It's X-ray time.
Paula Abdul suddenly becomes a Hindu goddess. For reasons.
Do you think this song about breast cancer awareness has a breakdown?
Oh yes. It has one hell of a breakdown. Everybody on the dance floor!
